Andrew Barnett Andrew Barnett (b. 1961) grew up in Chelmsford and studied at Worcester College, Oxford. His early violin studies fostered an abiding interest in the music of Sibelius, and while at Oxford he helped to establish the United Kingdom Sibelius Society, of which he is currently Chairman. He spent some years working in both Finland and Sweden, and now lives in Brighton. He has spoken on Sibelius both in Finland and in the UK, and has written articles on Sibelius and other Finnish music for CD booklets and for several periodicals. He regularly translates the work of leading Finnish scholars (from both Finnish and Swedish). He is project adviser for the complete recorded edition of Sibelius’s music for BIS Records (roughly 70 discs), scheduled to appear in 2007, and works closely with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, particularly in the context of the orchestra’s annual Sibelius Festival. |
